The 1JJ Swiss Tarot Deck is a historic 78-card tarot deck descended from the Tarot de Besançon tradition, itself an important branch of the Tarot de Marseille. Its distinctive identity comes from replacing the traditional Popess and Pope cards with Juno and Jupiter, the two Roman deities represented by the letters “JJ” in the deck’s name.

Reproduced in full color from early woodcut-style designs, the cards depict figures dressed in 19th-century costumes using strong blocks of red, blue, green, yellow and black. The deck contains 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana divided into Swords, Batons, Cups and Coins. The numbered Minor Arcana are presented as traditional pip cards rather than fully illustrated scenes.

This English-language edition includes a concise ten-page pamphlet by Stuart R. Kaplan, providing Major Arcana interpretations and instructions for using the ten-card Celtic Cross spread. With its narrow, easy-to-handle cards and unmistakable historical character, the 1JJ Swiss Tarot offers an engaging alternative for readers and collectors interested in tarot traditions beyond the Rider-Waite-Smith system.
